On the left of the print, George Washington, in military uniform, is seated at a large table. His left hand rests on a map of Washington, D.C. that is spread out on the table; his right arm is on the shoulder of his grandson, George Washington Parke Custis, who stands next to a partially draped globe. Martha Washington is seated at the table across from George Washington on the right side of the print. She holds a fan in her right hand which is pointed at the map on the table. Her granddaughter, Eleanor Parke Custis, stands next to her. William Lee, Washington's black servant, stands behind the table to the right. In the distance, beyond the table, is a view of the Potomac River.
